To curb air pollution, the Central government is going to ask taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola to convert 40 per cent of their fleet to electric vehicles by April 2026.
The electrification process for cab operators is being planned in the following stages:
2021: 2.5 per cent
2022: 5 per cent
2023: 10 per cent
2026: 40 per cent
According to reports, the government will impose a rule that all new cars sold for commercial use should be electric.
Commercially used two-wheelers will be electric from April 2023 as well.
It was reported that the government is considering introducing electric buses in all major cities. It would start at 5 per cent by 2023, 30 per cent by 2026 and post that, 100 per cent of the new city buses will have to be electric.
