Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended a clerk of a government high school in Jajpur’s Kabirpur, for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 4,000 bribe.
According to a Vigilance release, the clerk, Maheswar Samal, had demanded the illegal gratification from a retired teacher to prepare his pending arrear bills and pension papers. The entire bribe money was recovered from Samal and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are on at two locations in Jajpur district to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A case has also been registered against Samal under Section 7 of Prevent of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
