Bhubaneswar: To improve employability of engineering students, the state government has started a specialized and dedicated programme under the banner of ‘Finishing School’. International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar, has carried forward the programme by setting up the school in its campus.
In a meeting here on Tuesday, IIIT Director Prof Gopal Krishna Nayak along with Prof Ajit Kumar Das outlined the issues and presented the updates for discussion. Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said the course be made industry oriented through direct interface with the industries.
The Chief Secretary directed the IIIT to connect their students to loan subvention schemes of the government so that no eligible students gets deprived of the opportunities for higher technical education because of his inability to afford for it.
The government provides interest subvention to the banks for educational loans advanced to the students for higher technical education. This subvention is also made available even during the moratorium period. The student has to pay only 1% interest and the balance interest is borne by the government.
Official sources said the finishing school would be started from July and around 300 students trained in different batches this academic year. Any graduate in Electrical Science, Communication Engineering and Information Technology having domicile in Odisha can avail the opportunity. The students would be trained in qualitative skill, employment-oriented dexterity, quantitative aptitude and soft skills. The programme will be spread across 2 months.
The detail procedures for availing this facility has been put in the website: www.iiit-bh.ac.in.
