New Delhi: The Central government on Wednesday suspended senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official Captain Anil Gill with immediate effect over corruption charges.
“A disciplinary proceeding against Capt. Anil Gill, Director posted in Directorate of Aerosports in DGCA Headquarters is contemplated. Therefore, the President, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, hereby places the said Capt. Anil Gill posted in the Directorate of Aerosports under suspension with immediate effect,” stated the order issued by DGCA, under Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The ministry further stated that during the period that this order shall remain in force, Capt. Anil Gill should be in New Delhi and shall not leave the headquarters without obtaining the previous permission of the undersigned (Union Secretary Dahila Vashum).
Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice following the suspension.
The ministry’s decision to suspend Captain Anil Gill comes days after DGCA urged the ministry to transfer the case of bribery against him to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED).
