Govt To Open 200 Gosalas For Protection Of Cattle, Says Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: In order to save the cattle from being smuggled and take care of those facing accidents, the Odisha government has decided to open around 200 Gosalas (cattle sheds).

Informing this to the media on Saturday, Gokulanand Mallick, Minister of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development said the government was committed to protection of cattle against smuggling.

“We are preparing a roadmap to stop cattle trafficking from the state. As per our plan, stern actions will be taken against those found engaged in smuggling cows and dairy animals to other states,” he said.

“In order to extend timely medical assistance to the cattle meeting accidents while roaming in the streets, mobile hospitals will be launched. The cattle injured in the accidents and those rescued during smuggling will be taken care in around 200 Gosalas to be opened across the state,” he added.

On the fisheries sector, the minister said the officials have been directed to resolve the problems faced by the fishermen in increasing their productivity. The government is also planning to open cold storage for fishermen in strategic places, he added.
