Bhubaneswar: The state government has nominated Orissa Environmental Society (OES) secretary, Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi as an expert member of the “eco-sensitive zone monitoring committee” of Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary.
The State Forest and Environment Department has selected Panigrahi.
Panigrahi is also working as member of the forest fire taskforce and as an advisor for an advisory committee for Chandaka-Dampara Sanctuary.
Bhubaneswar-based NGO Wildlife Trust Of India has also been selected to the committee.
The selections come in compliance with a 2016 notification by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The notification provided guidelines for declaring eco-sensitive zones around national parks and wildlife sanctuaries to create some kind of ‘shock absorbers’ for the protected areas.
