Rourkela: A few days after a driver in the city was issued Rs 30-crore tax evasion notice from GST department, a mechanic has received a similar letter alleging Rs 70 crore fraud.
Samir Jojo, who lives in Basanti Colony of the city and works was a pipe-fitter in a plant, has been issued the notice by the GST department mentioning that he has not paid the CGST and state GST on goods transacted in his name amounting to Rs 70 crore.
Samir said he had started working in the plant around six months back. “When I joined, I had submitted all necessary document including signed cheque book to the plant officials. They had told me to pay Rs 12,000 as monthly salary,” he added.
He said he is totally unaware of any transaction made in my name. “Somebody may have opened a fraud company in my name and the made business dealings. Now the department has issued the notice to me. Where would I get such a huge amount,” he said.
Last month, a driver residing in Sector-20 of the city was charged with tax liability for allegedly receiving taxable goods amounting to Rs 23.96 crore and further availing Rs 4.31 crore under CGST and SGST on the strength of fake invoice.
