Bhubaneswar: Hockey seems to be the flavour of the season. This time it was not about dribbling the ball or a great drag-flick but balancing a field hockey stick on one finger for the longest duration possible.
Having spent over a year training to get his right pointer finger ready to balance a hockey stick, a youth from Odisha’s Balangir district has claimed to have successfully attempted a Guinness World Record.
Raj Gopal Bhoi of Jamutjhula village in Turekela block said to have balanced a hockey stick on his finger for 3 hours and 35 minutes during an event held at Haribhawan in Kantabanji on Thursday.
The previous record of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 22 seconds is in the name of Himanshu Gupta of Karnataka, who achieved the feat on August 19, 2017.
“I have submitted all necessary documents and other proofs of my record attempt to the Guinness World Records (GWR), which will take around 3 months to evaluate it. Thereafter, I can be officially recognised for this world record,” Rajgopal told the media.
The programme was organised by Guinness World Records holder ‘Punchman of India’ Satyapira Padhan, who is also Bhoi’s mentor. Baishnab Kabat and Aju Jani were the timekeepers, while Ghana Satnami and Dola Netra Majhi were the expert witnesses.
