New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Monday submitted its report on the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque premises before a Varanasi Court. ASI submitted the report before the Varanasi district Judge AK Vishvesha.
The next date of hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, December 21.
Meanwhile, the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, which manages the Gyanvapi Mosque has moved a petition seeking information about the survey report, News18 reported.
The Archaeological body had filed an appeal in the Varanasi district court in November this year, seeking an additional three weeks to submit the report of the scientific survey conducted on the Gyanvapi Mosque premises.
Notably, the ASI conducted a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi complex as per the Varanasi Court judge’s order dated July 21 to determine if the mosque was constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.
The survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque premises began in August this year, barring the sealed section. It was meant to check if the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing Hindu temple.
The survey took place after the Allahabad High Court upheld the Varanasi court order, stating that the survey was “necessary in the interest of justice”. The High Court also noted that the survey would benefit both sides and would be useful in solving the dispute.
