New Delhi: Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep alias Arsh Dala has been detained in Canada, PTI reported citing sources.
Dala, a close aide of slain Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was taken into custody following a shootout in Canada on October 27-28.
Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) had said on October 29 that it arrested two men for “discharging firearm with intent” after the duo went to a hospital. One of them was treated for a gunshot injury and later discharged.
Sources told PTI one of those arrested was Arsh Dala.
The Indian government designated Ludhiana-born Arshdeep as a terrorist in 2023.
A gazette notification by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said Arshdeep is associated with banned terrorist outfit Khalistan Tiger Force.
Arshdeep, who lives in Canada’s Surrey with his wife, is allegedly involved in multiple cases of extortion, murder and other terror-linked activities with registered against him under UAPA. A Lookout Circular has also been issued by Punjab Police.
He had taken responsibility for the murder of an electrician from Punjab’s Jagraon, through a Facebook post.
His associates shot dead Manohar Lal, a Dera Sacha Sauda follower, in November 2020.
