Abu Dhabi: Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya has become the first player in T20 franchise league’s history to take a knee, showing support for the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) movement.
He did so while celebrating his half-century against Rajasthan Royals in match 45 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), 2020. Pandya plays for Mumbai Indians (MI).
He hit 60 runs off 21 balls in this match.
The BLM started in the USA after the George Floyd incident in which a black American died due to alleged police officers’ brutality. The police officer had put his knee on Floyd’s neck, following which he was choked to death.
As a protest and outrage, the BLM movement started and gained momentum all across the world.
Hardik Pandya also took to his social media to share a photo of his celebration captioning it, “#BlackLivesMatter”.
