Chandigarh: Another sensational development has rocked Haryana Police, which has been under intense scrutiny since senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar allegedly committed suicide.
A week after Kumar, a 52-year-old 2001-batch IPS officer, shot himself in his Chandigarh residence, the investigating officer (IO) who was probing corruption allegations against the late additional director general of police (ADGP) allegedly died by suicide.
Sandeep Lather, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted in the Cyber Cell in Rohtak, left behind a three-page suicide note and a video message, in which he made serious allegations against Kumar’s staff officer.
In his suicide note and video, accessed by CNN News18, Lather said ADGP Kumar’s staff officer was “absolutely corrupt”, and that the officer was deputing corrupt officials and transferring them on the basis of caste.
Lather also described Kumar as a “corrupt officer” and claimed to have “ample evidence” against him.
Lather alleged that “everyone was involved”, in what appears to be a reference to corruption in the police department.
Ironically, Kumar had also left a note in which he named 16 senior IAS and IPS officers, including Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur, alleging that he had been driven to suicide because of harassment from them.
DGP Kapur, one of eight senior IPS officers named in Kumar’s 8-page note, has been sent on leave.
