Lucknow: Family members of the 19-year-old Dalit girl, who died after being brutalized by four upper caste men at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, appeared before the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday.

The bench, consisting of Justices Pankaj Mithal and Rajan Roy, fixed November 2 as the next date for hearing.

The girl’s father, mother and three brothers were escorted to the court amid tight security from Hathras, PTI reported.

UP’s Additional Chief Secretary, DGP and ADG (Law and Order) also deposed before the high court, along with the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police of Hathras.

The DM told the court that the victim was cremated late at night because of law and order considerations and denied that there was any pressure from state government authorities.

The  Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had on October 1 summoned top government officials after it was left “shocked” by the brutal gangrape, death and manner of cremation of the Dalit girl.
