Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Thursday dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed by industrialist and Orissa Stevedores Limited managing director Mahimananda Mishra aka Mahima Mishra.
The petition was filed by Mishra alleging illegal detention by police in connection with Paradip Tarinigoda firing and Cuttack Press Chhak bombing cases.
He was arrested from Thailand in December 2016 for allegedly masterminding the murder of Mahendra Swain, a top executive of Hyderabad-based stevedoring company Seaways Shipping and Logistics Ltd, on October 26 the same year near Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip.
He was also booked in the bomb hurling case, involving lawyer Abhay Bhatt, near Press Chhak in Cuttack on September 21, 2013 and in a firing incident, in which two youths were injured, at Tarinigada in Paradip in May last year.
The High Court on May 16 granted him conditional bail in the murder case, but Mishra continued to remain behind bars as he is yet to get relief in the remaining two cases.
