Bhubaneswar: With heatwave gripping Odisha, the day temperature is likely to rise further by 2 to 3°C during the next 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
“Due to northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation maximum temperature is very likely to rise further gradually by 2 to 3°C during next 2 days at many places over the districts of Odisha. Consequently, the day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C and likely to be 3 to 5°C above normal at a few places in Odisha during the next 4 days,” the IMD said in its special bulletin.
Meanwhile, yellow warning for heatwave has been issued till 8.30 am on April 16. People have been advised to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 2 pm.
By 11.30 this morning, Jharsuguda had recorded the highest of 38.6 degree Celsius, followed by Chandbali (38.4), Balasore (38.2) and Puri and Bhubaneswar at 38 degree Celsius each.
The MeT office has forecast longer-than-normal heatwaves in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana and Chhattisgarh during the month of April. Nine places in Odisha recorded 40 degree Celsius and above with Baripada being the hottest at 41.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
