While there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 24 hours, the mercury level may rise by 6-8 degree Celsius at many places in Odisha during the subsequent 4 days. The day temperature may soar past 40 degree Celsius in interior and western districts of the state with Parakhemundi recording the highest of 42 degree Celsius, according to the weather agency.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely continue at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada, on April 12 and at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Rayagada districts on April 13.

The SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) had also predicted a likely rise in the mercury level in Odisha from April 15. “While the day temperature will rise in South Interior Odisha from April 14, the coastal belt will experience hot and humid conditions once the prevailing anti-cyclone system over Bay of Bengal ceases. By April 18, the mercury may hover around 42 to 44 degree Celsius at most places in the state,” CEC director Sarat Sahu said.
