6 Places In Odisha Record 40°C & Above By 2.30PM; Thunderstorm, Gusty Wind From April 22

Bhubaneswar: Amid heatwave warning for another 48 hours, the mercury soared past 40 degree Celsius at six places, including Bhubaneswar, in Odisha by 2.30 pm on Wednesday.

Jharsuguda was the hottest at 43.2 degree Celsius, followed by Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur at 42.8 degree Celsius each, Hirakud at 41.6 degree Celsius, Chandbali at 40.6 degree Celsius and Keonjhar at 40 degree Celsius.

According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, heatwave is likely at one or two places in Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Deogarh and Angul till 8.30 am on Thursday. Similar conditions will prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh in the subsequent 24 hours.

The MeT office has also forecast rain at some places in the state during this period.

On April 22-23, several districts in the state is likely to experience thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40kmph under the influence of a fresh western disturbance. Rain will also be more widespread from these days.

“While there will be no large change in day temperature during the next 2 days, the mercury level will gradually fall by 2 to 4 degrees during the subsequent 3 days. Maximum temperature is likely to be 40 degree Celsius and remain 2-3 above normal at many places inOdisha. Hot and humid weather condition very likely to prevail during the next 1 to 2 days,” the IMD added.

At least 29 stations recorded over 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday  with Jharsuguda & Baripada (44.2) along with Hamirpur in east Uttar Pradesh being the hottest place in the country. Baripada was six degree hotter than normal while Jharsuguda recorded 3.8 degree more than the average day temperature.
