Bhubaneswar: With sweltering heatwave sweeping Odisha, Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature of 39.2 degree Celsius before noon on Thursday, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre tweeted.
The mercury soared above 37 degree Celsius at seven places and touched 33 degree Celsius and above at 10 places in Odisha by 11.30 am. The other nine are Balasore (39), Chandbali (39), Bhubaneswar (38.6), Sambalpur (38.2), Keonjhar (37.6), Hirakud (37.4), Gopalpur (34.6), Puri (33.4) and Paradip (33).
Balasore was the hottest at 33 degree Celsius by 8.30 this morning followed by Puri (32.2), Bhubaneswar (31.6), Jharsuguda (31), Chandbali (30.8) and Keonjhar (30.4).
At least 14 places had recorded temperature at 40 degree Celsius and above the previous say with Jharsuguda being the hottest at 43 degree Celsius.
The MeT office has issued heatwave warning till 8.30 am on April 16 and the day temperature is likely to be remain 3-5 degree Celsius above normal at many places in the state. People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside between 11 am and 2 pm.
