Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda and Sambalpur in Odisha, which is reeling under a heatwave, recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius at 11.30 am on Wednesday, according to the Meteorological Centre here.
While Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius at 11.30 am, Balasore recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius, Gopalpur (30.6), Paradip (31.8), Puri (32.6), Chandbali (37.6), Koenjhar (39.4) and Hirakud (39).
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in the state till April 29.
Severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha for the next four-five days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Tuesday.
“The daytime temperature is likely to rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius in interior areas. Heatwave is unlikely in southern and coastal regions as a few places here may receive rainfall during the next five days,” he added.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, a few places in interior Odisha are likely to see a slight rise in temperature as the mercury is expected to soar by about 2 degrees Celsius due to northwesterly/westerly dry air at lower levels and high solar insolation.
Due to the incursion of southerly near-surface levels, the maximum temperature is likely to fall slightly by about 2 degrees Celsius in coastal Odisha during the next two days, it added.
