Bhubaneswar: With entire Odisha in the grip of intense heatwave, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has warned against engagement of labourers during peak hours of the heat in day time.

In a letter to district collectors on Monday, the SRC directed to enforce restriction on the institutions, agencies and individuals on engaging the labourers in outdoor activities during the summer. They have been told to prevent the labourers from working directly under the sun from 11 am to 3 pm.

Considering the prevailing heatwave condition, the SRC said anybody found violating the direction would attract action under the Disaster Management Act.

It may be noted that maximum temperature soared to 40 degree Celsius and above at 4 places in the state by 2.30 pm on the day, as per IMD’s bulletin.

Bhubaneswar recorded the highest temperature in the state with 41.2 degree Celsius, followed by Chandbali with 41.1, Jharsuguda 41 and Balasore 40 degree Celsius.
