Bhubaneswar: With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall in Odisha due to a deep depression over Bay of Bengal on Monday, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena on Sunday directed the district collectors to remain alert.
Jena asked the colletors of the districts under orange and yellow warning to remain in readiness to meet any eventuality particularly water logging/landslide in hilly areas.
They were also directed to keep constant vigil on low lying areas and carry out dewatering wherever required including urban areas. Situation should be closely monitored and advice for fishermen strictly implemented, the SRC said in an official letter.
In a special bulletin, the IMD on Sunday forecast that wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast and west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal till October 13.
The Met department also said heavy rainfall is very likely in isolated places of Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
