Bhubaneswar: With thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain and gusty wind continuing in Odisha, the day temperature is expected to fall by 5-6 degree Celsius during the next 3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
“Due to likely interaction of middle dry westerly with lower level moisture laden winds from Bay of Bengal, meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, Hail, heavy rain, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the districts of Odisha during next 3 to 4 days. People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.”
The weather agency has issued orange warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall for districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Nabarangpur til. 8.30 am on Wednesday. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh.
Hailstorm warning has been sounded for districts of Angul, Dhenkanal and Jajpur.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in remaining parts of the state during this period.
Orange warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall continues for districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj during the subsequent 24 hours. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal.
On May 9, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall has been issued for districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur.
Though there are no further warning, light to moderate rain will continue in Odisha till May 13.
