Bhubaneswar: Even as several rivers in Odisha were in spate due to heavy rainfall under the influence of depression in Bay of Bengal, more rain is likely in the state after two days.
The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday has forecast that after a respite for two days, there is a possibility of more rain in Odisha. Though the intensity of rain will come down in next 48 hours, it will pick up from August 17, said IMD scientist Umashankar Das.
“As the southwest monsoon is still active, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in some parts of interior and coastal areas of Odisha on August 17 and 18,” said Das.
The IMD issued a yellow warning for interior and western Odisha including Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada and Sundargarh districts which will receive heavy rain.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradip Jena has also said there is a likelihood of formation of another low pressure around August 18.
Meanwhile, the depression over North Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood has moved west-northwestwards and lay centered over Northwest Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually during next 12 hours, the IMD said.
