Heavy Rain In Odisha For Next 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that heavy rainfall would continue in the south-western districts of Odisha for another 24 hours.

“The low pressure formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal is still active over the south-western Odisha. Under its influence, heavy rain would lash Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Ganjam, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Deogarh districts in the next 24 hours till August 28,” said an IMD release.

Due to the inclement weather, fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep waters along and off Odisha coast and the north-west Bay of Bengal till August 27 as the sea condition would be very rough during the period.

The release also said that since the low-pressure is moving in the north-west direction, heavy rain would lash the upper catchments in Chhattisgarh for two days which will result in the rise in the water level of Mahanadi and its tributaries.

Following heavy rainfall in Gajapati districts since the last 72 hours, the water level of Bansadhara river has crossed the danger level at Kasinagar in Paralakhemundi. As against the danger level of 54.60 metres, the floodwater was flowing at 54.84 metres by 9 am on Monday.

Reports from Sonepur district said the road communication from Sonepur to Redhakhol, Boudh and Athmallik due to overflowing of the Baurijora nullah on a bridge at Pitamuahula.

Meanwhile, in an afternoon release, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued thunderstorm and lightning alert in 10 districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Puri, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda and Nayagarh and advised the people to stay indoors till 10.30 pm.
