Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm couples with lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to hit most parts of Odisha during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
In a special bulletin, the weather agency said that a trough runs from east Assam to north Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Due to this synoptic situation and likely interaction of middle dry westerly with lower-level moisture laden winds from Bay of Bengal, conditions are favourable for thunderstorm activity with lightning, heavy rain, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Odisha during next 4 to 5 days.
People are advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre also issued yellow warning about the weather conditions for the next few days.
It said thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur during the next 24 hours.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH may occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, and Kendrapada during the period
Likewise, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is likely to occur at some places of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Angul, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Boudh by Friday.
