Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warning (heavy to very heavy rainfall) warning for 13 districts of Odisha.
Several places in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till 8.30 am on Thursday (August 27), the Met office said.
It has also forecast intense spells of rain at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nuapada and Nabarangpur.
Heavy rain is also likely to lash other districts of Odisha, it added.
The following day, isolated places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada and Keonjhar districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
This is being attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal, which now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha.
Under its influence, squally wind reaching 45-55 kmph is likely along the Odisha coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast till Thursday.
Collectors of the districts under red, orange and yellow warning, have been asked to remain prepared for any flood-like situation and landslide in hilly areas, the SRC release said.
