Sambalpur/Malkangiri: Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments, the authorities of the Hirakud dam in Sambalpur and the Indravati dam in Malkangiri districts on Thursday opened sluice gates to release floodwaters.
In Sambalpur, the authorities opened 10 gates of the Hirakud dam. While the water level of the dam stood at 625.89 feet (optimum level 630 feet) by 6 pm, the inflow and the outflow of the floodwaters were 11,48,600 cusecs and 1.18 lakh cusecs per second respectively.
In Malkangiri, the dam authorities opened two of seven gates of the dam. While the water level of the dam was 641 feet (optimum level 642 feet), the inflow and outflow were 824 cusecs and 276 cusecs per second respectively.
