New Delhi: Hema Gamang, the former Lok Sabha MP and wife of former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang, is all set to return to the Congress.
Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi on Tuesday, the former MP said she has come to meet the senior party leaders to let them know about her willingness. “I have interacted with some senior party leaders and I will meet some other leaders in this connection,” she added.
Asked whether she had received any hint from the Congress to take the leadership of the party in her constituency, Hema said the talks are on. “I have left the decision entirely with the party supremo Rahul Gandhi. I’ll do whatever responsibility he will assign me,” he added.
Hema had won the Lok Sabha election from Koraput constituency as a Congress candidate in 1999. She resigned from the Congress when denied the ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls in 2014. The same year, she joined the BJD and contested the Assembly poll from Laxmipur constituency but lost to her rival Congress candidate Kailash Kulesika by a slender margin of 1700 votes.
Explaining the reason of her resignation from the BJD, Hema said it is a regional party. “Moreover, people like me cannot stay in BJD, which does not want a leader, ” she pointed out.
