Mumbai: Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan breathed a sigh of relief on Friday as his debut film ‘Maharaj’ overcame legal hurdles and was given the green light for public viewing.

Once Gujarat High Court lifted its temporary stay on the release of ‘Maharaj’, the Siddharth P Malhotra directorial and Aditya Chopra’s YRF Entertainment-produced film started streaming on OTT platform Netflix.

Justice Sangeeta K Vishen had, on June 13, stayed the release of ‘Maharaj’.

But after watching the movie, Justice Vishen ruled that the film, based on events related to the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case, doesn’t intend to hurt sentiments of any community.

“This court arrives at the prima facie conclusion that the film ‘Maharaj’ is based on events that led to the filing of the libel case and is not targeted at hurting the sentiments of the Pushtimargi community. The film had been certified by the Central Board for Film Certification, an expert body after considering the relevant guidelines. The interim relief granted on June 13 has been vacated,” the court said.

‘Maharaj’, originally scheduled for release on June 14, features Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharvari Wagh among others.
