Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high near the Odisha Assembly on Thursday after a youth allegedly threatened to kill a woman with a knife.
The incident took place around 11.30 am.
According to sources, a woman from Nayagarh area had brought her mentally-challenged son for treatment to Bhubaneswar on Thursday, when he suddenly took a knife out of his pocket and put it to his mother’s neck.
Security personnel deployed near the State Assembly managed to rescue the woman as mediapersons tried to distract the youth by asking him the reason for this threat.
Police later took the youth to the Capital Hospital for a medical check-up.
While talking to the media, the youth alleged some irregularities.
Expressing concern over the shocking incident, Congress leader Suresh Routray said that while three-tier security has been put up in and around the Assembly with the deployment of 25 platoons of police and the Quick Action Team (QAT), how come the police did not know that the youth was carrying a knife in the high-security zone. “This incident has exposed poor security arrangements,” he pointed out.
