Balasore: Around 20 highway robbers allegedly vandalised a car and attacked its occupants near Bagapunji in Odisha’s Balasore district around midnight on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Gopal Das of Rautmandaruni village.
According to sources, the incident took place on national highway 57 when Das, who worked at a bar in Jaleswar, was returning home with an associate and the miscreants allegedly tried to intercept the car. As he speeded away, they started throwing stones and bricks at his car. As he pressed they brakes, the miscreants brutally attacked him and his associates and snatched away a bag containing cash and some gold jewellery from them.
Das, who sustained serious injuries, was initially take to a hospital at Jaleswar and later shifted to districts headquarters hospital in Balasore as his condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, Jaleswar police have initiated a probe into the highway robbery.
