Bhubaneswar: Following the rise in water level due to incessant rainfall in the upper catchment of areas of the Mahanadi river, the Hirakud dam authorities have decided to release the first flood water of the season on Sunday.
According to official sources, the gates of the dam will be opened after a ceremonial worship around 10 am.
“The people residing on the banks of Mahanadi and its tributaries have been requested to remain alert as water level will rise after release of flood water. The collectors of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Khurda, Phulbani, Puri and Jagatsinghpur too have been informed about the decision,” said Hirakud Dam chief engineer Harmohan Pradhan.
