Rourkela: Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey took stock of preparation for Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 in Rourkela of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday.
Tirkey, accompanied by Sports secretary R Vineel Krishna, held a high-level meeting with the members of Rourkela Stadium Committee and district officials regarding progress of the works in the city which will co-host the world sports event along with Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The officials of Idco informed Tirkey about infrastructure development of Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in the city where the Hockey World Cup will be played. Tirkey, the former captain of Indian hockey team, also reviewed the accommodation for the players in different hotels and various facilities inside the stadium. Krishna directed the officials to complete the pending works as per the schedule.
The construction of roads to be used for transport of the teams, hospitals, Fire services and sanitation measures around the stadium also figured in the discussion. The officials informed about the steps taken for deputation of doctors and assisting officials and deployment of ambulances at places closest to the stadium on the match days.
Tirkey stressed on the measures for security of the players and accompanying officials of hockey teams during their stay in the Steel City.
It was revealed at the meeting that adequate space has been allocated for parking of vehicles at 5 different places around the stadium. Basic amenities like lighting, drinking water and toilets have also been made in the parking areas.
The Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Sundargarh district administration have taken the responsibility of beautification and illumination of the entire city. Steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the entire tournament in the city, the visiting delegates were told.
