New Delhi: Honda has finally launched the 2nd generation of its popular compact sedan – Amaze. Introductory price of the base model petrol is Rs 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The top-end diesel is priced at Rs 9.00 lakh. The new Amaze has been completely redesigned and this time it gets dual front airbags, ABS, Isofix child-seat mounts and rear parking sensors as standard on all its variants.
The 1.2-litre 90hp petrol and 1.5-litre 100hp diesel engines remain unchanged. There is a new diesel automatic variant which has a CVT gearbox. It is important to note that this diesel automatic is rated at just 80hp, a full 20hp lower than the manual variant. The automatic is not available on the top VX variant. Like the Jazz, the Amaze automatic gets paddle-shifters too.
The petrol-manual gets 19.5 kmpl, the petrol-automatic gets 19 kmpl, the diesel-manual gets 27.8 kmpl and the diesel-automatic gets 23.8 kmpl on the ARAI tested fuel-efficiency numbers.
Equipment wise, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, GPS navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, steering-mounted voice controls, cruise control, LED daytime-running lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless go with push-button start and automatic climate control are available on the higher variants.
The new Amaze weighs 905kg for the petrol base end and 1039kg for the top end diesel. Size-wise, it is 5mm longer and 15mm wider. Honda claims an increase of 45mm shoulder room, 10mm rear headroom and 25mm legroom. The boot space has increased by 20 litres. It is now 420 litres.
Honda Amaze will compete with the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire. Only the Dzire offers a diesel automatic in this class.
