Hot & Humid Conditions To Prevail In Odisha From Tomorrow; Heatwave Warning On May 20-21

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions from Saturday amid the continuing thunderstorm activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

Heatwave warning has also been sounded for the state on May 20-21.

According to the weather agency, hot and humid weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati on May 18. There is also a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur at one or two places in South Odisha.

On May 19, yellow warning for hot & humid weather conditions has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Heatwave may return to the state on May 20 with warning issued for one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal. Light to moderate rain/thundershower may also occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.

On May 21, heatwave condition may prevail at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal. Thunderstorm with lightning is also at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Bhadrak with light to moderate rain/thundershower at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur.

While there is no further weather warning, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue in some parts of the state during the subsequent 2 days.

The MeT office further said that the day temperature may rise by 2-4 degree Celsius at many places in the state during this period. The mercury may soar to  40 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar on May 21 and hover around 42-44 degree Celsius at several places in western Odisha and Malkangiri in the south.
