Puri: An employee of a hotel in Puri has been arrested for allegedly filming a tourist while she was taking a shower, through the ventilation window of her bathroom using a selfie stick.
The accused has been identified as Biplop Mitra (25), a housekeeping staff of D K Hotel near Harihar Chhak.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon.
The complainant said that she along with her family checked into the hotel on Saturday. She spotted a mobile phone near the ventilation window of her bathroom while taking a bath the next day. She immediately came out of the bathroom and caught hold of the employee, who had by then deleted the clip. “I snatched his phone and found the video in the recycle bin,” the resident of Sundargarh was quoted as saying by TOI.
The mobile had videos of several other women, who might have checked into the hotel, she added.
While the complainant suspected involvement of senior functionaries of the hotel in such incidents, the management refuted the allegation.
Puri SP Vishal Kanwar said that the incident has been taken seriously and the offender booked under Section 354C (voyeurism), 354D (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) under the IPC.
Notably, a woman from Gujarat had recently lodged a complaint with Konark police alleging that a person filmed her while she was taking bath at a toilet complex near Chandrabhaga beach.
