Balasore: Excise sleuths on Friday seized a huge consignment of ganja from Basta railway station in Balasore district.
Three peddlers, including a woman, were arrested for possessing the banned substance.
The peddlers had planned to go to West Bengal with 50 kg of ganja on Jagannath Express.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the ganja smuggling, a team of excise officials conducted raid at the station and managed to nab the trio.
Those arrested are being interrogated to know from where the consignment was procured from. Efforts are on to nab others involved in the racket, excise sources said.
In a similar crackdown, on May 18, Orkel police in Malkangiri district had seized more than 10 quintals of ganja near Pilakusimi forest and arrested three persons in this connection.
The arrested were carrying 66 sacks of ganja to Chhattisgarh from Malkangiri.
A police team had conducted raid in the forest area and managed to arrest the trio with the contraband. However, as many as 33 ‘Kawariyas’ managed to flee the spot during raid.
