New Delhi/Bhopal: Income tax officers on Sunday morning raided Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s former private secretary Praveen Kakkar’s Indore home and former adviser Rajendra Kumar Miglani’s Delhi home.
The raids, carried out in connection with an alleged hawala case, unearthed Rs 9 crore. Apart from their houses, Miglani’s brother-in-law’s company Moser Baer and his nephew Ratuk Puri’s premises in Nodia were also raided.
Kakkar and Miglani had recently resigned from their posts.
Sources said the Election Commission had nothing to do with the raids. It was wholly under the income tax department’s purview. Opposition leaders have accused the government of unfairly using IT raids during elections to beat down their opponents.
Kamal Nath has won nine times from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara.
