Berhampur: Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chair Professor, AICTE on Thursday stressed on removing the urban-rural disparity through implementation of emerging technology.
Speaking at the first convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), here on virtual mode, Dr Kakodkar said knowledge can be more effective to challenge this disparity and collective endeavour is needed to make the world a better place to live in.
“We need innovation at higher level to compete at international fora. The graduates of IISER, Berhampur are great assets of the country for research and development of science,” said Dr Kakodkar, who is also chairman Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission and former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission.
Dr MSN Reddy, chairman and managing director of MSN Laboratories and chairman BoG of IISER Berhampur also spoke.
Total 45 BS-MS students of 2016 batch of IISER were awarded dual degree with major in Biological/Chemical/Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The institute also honoured Aditya Prasad Das with President’s Gold Medal for the best academic performance and Durga Das Mohanty Memorial Award for securing highest marks in Physics. Anindra Roy of Biological Science bagged Director’s Gold Medal for all round performance.
Prof KVR Chary, director, IISER Berhampur said, “The institute has made steady progress during the last 10 semesters. The institute is striving to develop state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities and academic resources for high quality science education and research.”
