IIT-Bhubaneswar Girl Student Dies After Fall From 5th Floor Of Admn Building

Bhubaneswar: A girl student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar died reportedly after falling from the fifth floor of the administration building at the Arugul campus on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased, identified as Kritika Raj from New Delhi, was a BTech third-year student in the premier institute.

As per a statement issued by IIT-Bhubaneswar, the student fell from the fifth floor of the administration building which houses the library around 11 pm on Tuesday night.

Security personnel present nearby noticed the student immediately after the fall due to the sound and alerted the administration. They took her to the institute medical centre where the doctor pronounced the student dead. The police were informed immediately and are investigating the case.

On being informed about the incident, a team of police personnel visited the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team also reportedly examined the site as part of the probe.

While the exact circumstances that led to the incident are yet to be ascertained, the girl was suspected to have died by suicide by jumping from the terrace. However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Sources Kritika had visited her home 10 days ago and had been quiet and reserved following her return.

Police, meanwhile, seized the body and sent it to the hospital for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.

The authorities of the institute have informed the family of the deceased.
