Bhubaneswar: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar is developing software that is capable of detecting over-speeding vehicles.
State Transport Commissioner, Sanjeeb Panda confirmed that IIT Bhubaneswar’s School of Electrical Sciences has sent a proposal to develop radar technology for detecting over-speeding vehicles in all-weather conditions. The project will approximately cost Rs 16.10 lakh.
Panda also informed that it has been decided to set up two road-safety sensitisation centres at Chandrasekharpur DL testing ground in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela to improve traffic compliance.
Also, traffic awareness vans (TAVs) will be deployed in Sundargarh, Ganajam, Keonjhar, Koraput and Balasore districts, the Commissioner said, adding that an SOP will be developed for the use of the TAVs.
Officials said an IT tool is being developed to monitor black spot status, collect data from agencies, jointly inspect fatal and grievous injury spots, and enable people to share feedback, reported ABP Education.
The department is contemplating engaging 42 road safety assistants (RSAs) in regional transport offices for effective use of the IT tool. A proposal has also been placed for the development of an Integrated Remote Monitoring System (IRMS) to supervise different activities of IT devices available with the RTOs.
