Cuttack: The officials of Weights and Measures department along with police busted an illegal unit manufacturing weighing machine in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Monday.
According to sources, the department had received a complaint from a trader alleging that the weighing machine he had purchased from a place Nuapatna under Madhupatna police limits was defective.
The department launched an investigation into the complaint. During investigation, they came to know that a weighing machine manufacturing unit was operating from the house in Nuapatna.
The Weights and Measures officials along with a team from Madhupatna police station conducted a raid on the house on the day. During the raid, they seized 25 weighing machines and various components used in manufacturing the machines.
It was also revealed that the unit did not have requisite permission or licence from the authorities concerned to manufacture the weighing machines though it was authorised to sell the machines.
Necessary action would be taken against the owner of the manufacturing unit after further investigation, the department sources said.
