The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a nowcast warning at 7.30 pm, said light to moderate rain and thundershower with lightning are likely to affect some parts of districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack (including Cuttack city) and Puri in next 3 hours.
Moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spell of rain is likely to affect the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Jagatsinghpur during the period, it added.
The IMD said on the impact of rain, waterlogging in low lying areas, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas are likely. It advised the people to avoid movement in affected areas and make arrangement for drainage of excess water.
The weather office also told the people to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
