Brace Yourself For Heavy Rainfall In Odisha, Says IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Odisha as a cyclonic circulation is all set to turn into a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal within 24 hours.

“The cyclonic circulation formed over the north-west and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha­ and north Andhra Pradesh coasts yesterday, has moved further and is lying over the northern parts of West Bengal and neighbourhood today. The system will turn into low-pressure and form over the coastal areas of West Bengal and neighbourhood by tomorrow. Under its influence, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall will lash most parts of Odisha for the next three days,” said the national weather agency in a mid-day bulletin.

In view of the heavy to very heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow warning for the following districts of Odisha. A yellow level weather alerts notifies those who are at risk because of their location and/or activity, and allows them to take preventative action.

June 26: Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsingpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Koraput and Kendrapada.

June 27: Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Balangir and Jajpur.

June 28: Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Balasore, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

Due to the inclement weather condition, IMD has advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and north-west adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal on July 27 and 28. Those who have gone for deep-sea fishing have been advised to return to the coast by July 26.
