Bhubaneswar: Even as the movement and intensity of cyclone ‘Asani’ is yet to be confirmed, the state government on Thursday directed the administration of different districts to remain prepared.
Speaking on preparedness for the cyclone, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is yet to make any forecast on the possibility of the system. It can give a clear picture on the cyclone only after low pressure is formed on Friday.
The SRC said though the system is likely to develop into a low pressure in the South Adaman Sea and its neighbourhood, intensifying into a cyclone, the government is well prepared for the possibility. “Collectors of 18 districts have been asked to undertake all preparedness measures in advance,” said Jena.
Besides, 17 NDRF, 20 ODRAF and 175 teams of Fire Services department have been kept on high alert to take up rescue and rehabilitation measures in the wake of cyclone, he added.
On the IMD’s forecast that chances of storm formation are high in May and environmental conditions are favouring it, Jena said Odisha has already witnessed three cyclones – Fani, Amphan and Yaas – during summer previously. “There is no possibilities of flood-like situation, if cyclone hits the state in the summer,” he added.
