Bhubaneswar: Burglars allegedly broke into a house at Nandan Vihar in Bhubaneswar and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh and Rs 9 lakh in cash on Friday night.
According to the owner of the house, Niranjan Paltasingh, the thieves burgled the house in around three hours (9 pm and 12.30 am) when he had gone to attend his niece’s wedding. “On returning home, I found the doors open while the lock on the main grill was intact. The thieves rummaged through the rooms, picked Rs 2 lakh which my wife had kept among her clothes and another Rs 7 lakh, which my daughter had received under a government scheme and kept in her bag,” he told the media.
He said that they also looted the jewelleries, which he had saved for the wedding of his two daughters, and two wrist watches. The thieves ate food kept in the kitchen and also used the toilet in their house. “They did not even flush the toilet,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the matter. “They have assured that the thieves will be nabbed in the next 3-4 days,” he added.
