Incessant Rain: 20 Gates Of Hirakud Dam Opened To Release Floodwater

Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities opened eight more gates of the reservoir on Sunday following an increase in water level due to incessant rain in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi.

The water level in the dam was recorded 625.69 ft against the optimal storage capacity of 630 ft.

Currently, the floodwater is being discharged through 20 sluice gates. The average inflow and outflow of water was recorded at 3,41,950 cusec/second and 3,41,950 cusec/second respectively around 12.00 pm.

Similarly, the water inflow at Belgaon stood at 76,000 cusec (steady), 2,07,677 cusec (falling) at Patharla, 6,46,000 cusec (falling) at Khairmal, 5,84,000 cusec at Barmul (rising) and 6,97,000 cusec (rising) at Mundali.

The Rengali dam authorities have also opened one sluice gate of the reservoir to release the excess water.

The water level in the dam stood at 122.75 metres against the total storage capacity of 123.5 metres and water inflow and outflow was recorded at 843.25 cusec/second and 2042.24 cusec/second respectively.
