New Delhi: India and China on Wednesday completed the disengagement exercise in Depsang and Demchok, at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The two countries’ troops are currently verifying vacation of positions and removal of infrastructure, ANI reported quoting Indian Army sources.
Coordinated patrolling by both sides will start in a few days, while ground commanders will continue to hold talks.
Army officials said the two sides will exchange sweets for Diwali on Thursday.
Depsang and Demchok emerged as friction points after Chinese troops’ aggression along LAC in April-May 2020.
Indo-Chinese relations plunged further on June 15, 2020, after 20 Indian soldiers were killed while trying to thwart Chinese offensive in the Galwan Valley.
India’s Foreign secretary Vikram Misri announced on October 21 that New Delhi and Beijing had reached an agreement to disengage in the friction points at LAC in eastern Ladakh.
The two nations began disengagement at the two friction points in Demchok and Depsang plains on October 23.
