Mumbai: ‘Emergency’ is Kangana Ranaut’s dream project.
It’s not only her debut as solo director, she is also producing the film as well as playing the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The first teaser promo of ‘Emergency’ dropped in social media today.
Kangana took to Instagram to share the teaser and also release date of the film.
“A protector or a dictator? Witness the darkest phase of our history when the leader of our nation declared a war on its people. #Emergency releasing worldwide on 24th November,” Kangana wrote alongside the video.
The teaser video opens with scenes of chaos on June 25, 1975, as protestors take to the streets after emergency is declared by then-PM Indira. Anupam Kher, who plays Jayprakash Narayan, is seen behind the bars with a headline ‘Opposition leaders arrested.’
Kangana looks strikingly similar to India’s first and only Prime Minister as she says, “No one can stop me from saving our country (in Hindi)… India is Indira, and Indira is India”.
Watch the teaser video shared by Kangana:
Kangana, who announced the film in 2021, revealed in January that she had mortgaged all her property to make the film.
“As I wrap Emergency as an actor today… a tremendously glorious phase of my life comes to its full completion… It may seem I sailed through it comfortably but the truth is far from it… From mortgaging all my properties, every single thing that I owned to being diagnosed with dengue during the first schedule and having to film it in spite of alarmingly low blood cell counts, my character as an individual has been severely tested… I have been very open about my feelings on SM (social media) but I didn’t share all this, honestly, because I didn’t want people, who cared to worry unnecessarily and those, who desperately want to see me fall and were doing everything to make me suffer, I didn’t want to give them the pleasure of my pain,” Kangana wrote after she finished the film.
‘Emergency’ is written by Ritesh Shah, who had also penned her last film ‘Dhaakad’. Kangana and Anupam apart, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, the late Satish Kaushik and Shreyas Talpade will be seen in important roles in the film.
