Mumbai: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India was not among the countries that are nervous after Donald Trump won the US presidential elections.
He made this remark while addressing the Aditya Birla 25th Silver Jubilee Scholarship Program in Mumbai. The External Affairs minister also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had established rapport with many US presidents.
“When he first visited Washington D.C., Barack Obama was the President, then it was Donald Trump, and then it was Joe Biden… There is something natural in terms of how he (PM Modi) forges those relationships… I know many countries are nervous about the US today, but let’s be honest. We are not one of them,” he said.
In fact, PM Modi was among the first three world leaders who congratulated the US President-elect shortly after he defeated Kamala Harris in the high-stakes polls.
After Trump emerged victorious on November 5, PM Modi called and congratulated him. During the conversation, Trump reportedly praised PM Modi and called him a ‘magnificent man.’ Trump had also added that the whole world loved Modi, reports claimed.
Both leaders reportedly agreed to work together for world peace. In a post on Twitter, PM Modi mentioned that he had a ‘great conversation’ with Trump and called the later as his ‘friend.’
